Four years ago, we dove into Air Force flight line ops and heard maintenance crews loud and clear: spotty network access was a major buzzkill. They dreamed of tapping into the base network to supercharge their work. Early fixes like PepLink and CradlePoint leaned on sluggish 3/4G and clunky VPNs, but those didn’t cut it—especially at bases off the public grid.
Enter the Network Extension Device (NED): a rugged, battery-powered access point that links directly to the base network via mesh Wi-Fi. Simple, right? Not quite. Users wanted more than a box—they needed a tool as handy as their wrench. So, we hit the road, learning from Border Patrol in Texas, AMC, Fort Campbell, even Circuit of the Americas event crews. Their feedback? Make it smart, tough, and easy to carry.

NED: Tough Tech for Real-World Hustle
The NED family is built to work as hard as you do. Encased in military-grade SKB iSeries shells, these lightweight, corrosion-proof units shrug off impacts. Inside, laser-cut shelving and high-density foam cradle the tech, with customizable lid logos and colored foam for flair.
Powered by a patent-pending board and Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, NED delivers stable, scalable juice. It supports PoE, USB A/C, DC, and 110v outputs, with flexible 12v/24v/48v options for up to four devices. Safety first: short-circuit and over-current protection, plus a guarded power switch, keep things running smoothly.
Control it all with an Android app over Bluetooth—monitor battery, temperature, and power settings, or tweak startup sequences. A sunlight-readable display shows voltage, amps, temp, faults, and network status (Ruckus-ready now, Aruba support by Q3 2025).
